 STUDENT TRAINEESHIPS
Traineeships are one of the best things that has happend to this industry giving young and old people an awesome opportunity to gain essential skills and qualifications while working.
Graham Slater created the Learn & Earn Sports College (LESC) and partnered with Barry Jonston of International College of Kenshusei (ICK) to help develop a model that would benefit all instructors. This model has been widely used by instructors helping hundreds of people gain exciting and healthy career pathways. It is great to know that other registered training orginisations (RTOs) like Damien Martin's International Martial Arts College (formally Budo College) also offer these types of traineeships and have been for a number of years.
School Based Traineeships (students of the age of 15 years) have been the most appealing for instructors and students alike. This means that any teenager from the age of 15 still at school has the opportunity to learn martial arts for free, gain a qualification Cert II & III in either or both Sports Coaching or Fitness, gain credit for VCE and be able to look forward to an exciting and rewarding career in the martial arts and fitness industries.

Your average day might go like this:
As high schools give SBA's up to one day per week off it is easy to make up your course hours. Lets start with after school three times a week you go to the centre for 3-4 hours welcoming new clients, assisting the instructors, performing various admin jobs then it is time for your class where you improve your fitness and martial art skills once again. Saturday comes and you are feeling energetic ready to give 4-5 hours of your time working with the demo / competition team, assisting instructors and handing out flyers. Between shifts at home you might be studying your resource material ready for your one full day a month of classroom learning. In School holidays you may allocate a few full days of work to keep up your hour average required for this traineeship. You have never been as fit, healthy and confident in your life. You are also learning new skills that will give you an edge towards an exciting career in the future as well as earning a wage. In under 12 months you could obtain Certificate II in Sport Coaching and in a further 12 months obtain Certificate III in Fitness or Sports Coaching (specializing in Martial Arts).
